The theme for Day 8′s celebrating National Poetry Month is “Friendship.” Click HERE for details of this haiku celebration of throughout the month of April.
Since I’m not in the drawing for my own book, I decided it’s okay if for the friendship haiku, I don’t post one of my original haiku. Instead, I’m going to post a haiku that my dear friend, Ruth Weeks, wrote as a “farewell” haiku when I moved from Fayetteville to Dallas:
sisters not of blood
but soul mates from start of time
love needs no reason
Obviously, it made me cry. 🙂
Share your haiku about FRIENDSHIP in the comments of this post and you’ll be entered in the drawing for one of three signed copies of LIFE: HAIKU BY HAIKU! Only three rules:
- Must be your original haiku (which is typically seventeen syllables, three lines of 5-7-5 syllables each, but I won’t be a stickler.)
- Must be entered in the comments of this blog post
- Must be about the topic of the day
Reblogged this on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pen and commented:
I love Ruth Weeks’s haiku!
But your not alone
We’ve always been there for you
Cause that’s what friends do
My best friends are always there for me. 🙂
A lovely farewell haiku indeed, Jan.
Symbiotic plants
Different roots, grow as one
You, friend of my heart
Love the idea of symbiosis in friendship, Janet. 🙂
I was afraid this would happen. The haiku I posted for “love” but mistakenly put on “family” page is also perfect for “friendship.” If I had known ahead of time “friendship” would be a subject, I would probably saved it for that day. Oh, well, I’ll go ahead and post it today since maybe no one has gone back to previous pages. Is that okay, Jan?
Come play with me, friend,
until sun goes down and dark
divides us through time
Hi Fay–I did see your haiku on the family page and I counted it as an entry for the drawing. If you’d like a list of the themes for each day, go to this link:
Thanks for participating!
Jan
Merci, Ms. Jan
when I fall you hurt,
when I stumble, you hold me,
when you leave, I’m blue
That’s a friend, all right, Jim! 🙂
For get me not at:
Your grave site again today-
Inseparable.
The image is quite poignant, Lewis.
Ruth did such a great job! And so did your other commenters. I hate to even post mine in comparison.
Time—ephemeral
But what’s ever consistent
Is our bond, my friend
Miss you, Jan!
I agree, Staci. I love Ruth’s haikus. 🙂 And yes, I’ve really been enjoying reading everyone’s contributions this month. Including YOURS! Very nice.
I miss all of you, too. Still looking for a writing critique group in Dallas. Take care, Staci!
Try reaching out to Kristen Lamb. She’s somewhere in that area and can probably point you in the right direction, group-wise. (Not that anyone can compare, but you might find a close second.) 😉
these bright bursting buds,
spring’s youth mocking my aged face
I need an old friend
Steve, I prefer to look at it as “spring’s youth casting light upon your handsome face.” And though I haven’t been your friend for long, I am old. 🙂
friends fill in
the cannula
when blood clogs
Thank goodness for friends, Azim!
