The theme for Day 26’s celebration of National Poetry Month is “LOSS.” Click HERE for details of this haiku celebration of throughout the month of April.
I’m on the road today, and attempted to post this blog from my iPad, so my apologies if it looks a little awkward. 🙂
I’ve often found that a garden is a good metaphor for so many things in life, including loss:
a lovely flower
died in my garden but
spring will come again
Share your LOSS haiku in the comments of this post and you’ll be entered in the drawing for one of three signed copies of LIFE: HAIKU BY HAIKU! Only three rules:
- Must be your original haiku (which is typically seventeen syllables, three lines of 5-7-5 syllables each, but I won’t be a stickler.)
- Must be entered in the comments of this blog post
- Must be about the topic of the day

Roses all a bloom
Reds and yellows oh so sweet
Faded all too soon.
Very nice. The last line, especially!
where is the old me

Very clever, and a good twist on the theme. I really like it. 🙂
I hear you singing
wind chimes calling out my name
my heart so empty
So, so pretty, Linda.
they scan the list –
twenty of them
more to be confirmed
Too many of these stories lately.
darkening sky —
dressed in black
faint sobs
Another poignant image. Beautiful haiku.
Matters not how long
Sacred pet enriched your life
Loss still felt sorely.
Our pets are so dear to us. I still sorely feel the loss of my two black labs, Alice. Very nice haiku.

and places the wedding ring
on gravestone
Beautiful on so many different levels, Azim.
