Celebrate National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month! Poets.org lists “30 Ways to Celebrate.” My favorite on the list is:

Put a poem in a letter.

But, I modified it a bit. During the month of April, instead of putting a poem in a letter, I’ll write haiku every day on my blog.

As a reminder, here’s a definition of haiku:

I invite you to join me beginning April 1. Below I’ve posted a theme for each day in April.

April 1 – spring
April 2 – colors
April 3 – dogs
April 4 – cats
April 5 – life
April 6 – love
April 7 – flowers
April 8 – trees
April 9 – school
April 10 – books (Sorry, I missed this day!)
April 11 – clouds
April 12 – water
April 13 – summer
April 14 – ocean
April 15 – children
April 16 -snow
April 17 – rain
April 18 -writing
April 19 – wind
April 20 – home
April 21 – letters (Sorry, I missed this day!)
April 22 – birds (Sorry, I missed this day!)
April 23 – writer’s block (Sorry, I missed this day!)
April 24 – birth
April 25 – your favorite food
April 26 – FREE DAY! Write a haiku about anything!
April 27 – loss
April 28 – memories
April 29 -autumn
April 30 – winter

Each day, I’ll post a haiku with the “Theme of the Day” and invite you to leave your own haiku in the comments.

LHBH FinalOn May 1, I’ll draw three winners for a copy of my book, Life: Haiku by Haiku. To enter, simply leave an original haiku for that day’s theme in the comments. You’ll be entered for every haiku you leave in the comments throughout April, as long as the haiku is about the “Theme of the Day.” The more haiku you enter, the better your chance of winning!

Your haiku for that date must be about the “Theme of the Day” to be entered in the drawing. (Including the theme word in the haiku isn’t necessary, however.)

(Shipping address of the winners must be within the United States.)

Good luck, and happy National Poetry Month!

Already doing a 30 in 30 for April. Thirty poems in 30 days. Hopefully a few will be Haiku, so I will try to follow your theme for that day. So glad you celebrate and share that with your readers. Happy Poetry Month to you.
